What are Hypopressives?

Hypopressives (also known as Hypopressive Therapy or Hypopressive Abs) is a respiratory and postural method which uses specific breathing techniques (breathhold) and different postures to strengthen the pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscles. It also releases the diaphragm, increases lung capacity, reduces the waistline and improves posture among other benefits.

Hypopressive exercises are recommended in the postnatal period since they help to re-educate and strengthen the pelvic floor muscles and with the closure of the diastasis recti (separation of the rectus abdominis muscles). Hypopressives are beneficial for both men and women, can prevent abdominal and inguinal hernias and can be used for prevention and treatment of pelvic floor pathology in athletes and individuals who perform impact activities (such as running, crossfit, gymnastics, weight lifting, tennis, aerobics, etc.).
