“Because I’m a physiotherapist as well as a Pilates instructor, I see Pilates through the lens of how your body moves. I can adapt any exercise to your body, your goals and any injury — so every class stays safe, effective and enjoyable.”

Why choose Maxifisio for Pilates?

A physiotherapist's understanding of your body

Maria is a chartered physiotherapist with 20+ years of clinical experience. She understands anatomy, injury and rehabilitation, so every exercise is chosen and adapted to suit your body — safe and effective, whatever your starting point.

A fully equipped contemporary studio

Most “reformer studios” only have reformers. Maxifisio is a complete Pilates studio with the full apparatus — Reformer, Cadillac, Tower, Split-pedal Chair and Ladder Barrel — for richer, more varied sessions and far more scope to tailor the work to you.

Truly bilingual instruction

No straining to follow cues in Spanish. After 11 years in London, Maria is fully fluent in English, so you’ll understand every instruction and correction.

Small groups, real attention

Classes are capped at 5, so Maria can watch your form, correct it, and adapt exercises to each person in the room.

Enjoyable and challenging

Maria works hard to keep every class both enjoyable and challenging — the kind of session you look forward to. That’s deliberate: when a class is something you enjoy, you stick with it, and that consistency is what brings real, lasting results.

Adapted to your body

Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a condition, pregnant or postnatal, or simply new to Pilates, every session is adjusted to your level and needs.

Central and easy to reach

In El Viso — 3 minutes from Cruz del Rayo (Line 9) and 6 minutes from República Argentina (Line 6).

What is contemporary Pilates?

Pilates builds strength from the inside out — working from your core, or “centre,” to improve core strength, posture, flexibility, coordination and control, all with minimal impact on the joints and spine.

Maria teaches contemporary Pilates. Where classical Pilates follows Joseph Pilates’ original repertoire to the letter, contemporary Pilates keeps those foundations but incorporates modern biomechanics, exercise science and physiotherapy — so exercises can be adapted and progressed to suit each individual body. For a physiotherapist working with mixed-ability groups and clients in rehabilitation, that adaptability is the whole point: the method bends to your body, not the other way around.

The basic principles of Pilates are:

  • Centering
  • Concentration
  • Control
  • Precision
  • Breath
  • Flow

Classes and sessions

Maxifisio is an equipment studio, so all in-studio Pilates is done on the apparatus. Classes cater for every level — from Beginners and Improvers through to Intermediate and Advanced — with Maria adapting each exercise to suit every participant. If you’re new to Pilates or to the equipment, you can start with an optional initial assessment: a relaxed introduction where Maria familiarises you with the Reformer and apparatus, finds your level, and helps you feel at home before you join a group class.

Reformer Pilates classes

Our most popular group class, on the Reformer — dynamic, low-impact and endlessly adaptable. See our Reformer Pilates page →

Equipment Pilates classes

These alternate weekly between the Reformer and the studio’s other apparatus — Tower, Split-pedal Chair and Ladder Barrel — so you train across the full range of equipment.

Private 1:1 & duet sessions

The most tailored option, using the full studio apparatus including two Cadillacs. Ideal if you have specific goals, an injury or a condition, or simply prefer individual attention.

What our clients say

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 Stars • 218 Google Reviews

I've tried both group and private classes with Maria, and I loved both. Her classes are always personalised — I had an issue with my right hamstring, and after a few classes the strain was completely gone. I also thoroughly enjoyed my one-to-one private sessions because I was able to explore different Pilates equipment and techniques. If you're looking for Pilates classes taught in English, I highly recommend giving Maria's class a try!

Grace, Singapore ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Maria has been an essential part of my nine months in Madrid. We met twice a week for Pilates and her classes truly made a difference — not only did my back pain disappear, but I also felt stronger and more balanced overall. Although it's a group class, she knows everyone's strengths and vulnerabilities and recommends different variations of each exercise. If you're looking for Pilates in English, I wholeheartedly recommend her.

Zeynep, Türkiye ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I've been going to Maria's Pilates classes for a few years and love every single one. She knows all of her clients well, which means she adapts any workout if needed. More recently I've also seen Maria for physio, during which she worked professionally and well. I'd truly recommend Maria for all of her services.

Olivia, Belgium ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have been to many physios and Pilates teachers, but no one is quite like Maria. Such a professional, knowledgeable and fun clinician and teacher — you can feel the difference in her clinic. You are not just another number.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between your Reformer and Equipment Pilates classes?

Reformer classes are taught entirely on the Reformer. Equipment Pilates classes alternate weekly — one week on the Reformer, the next on the studio’s other apparatus (Tower, Split-pedal Chair and Ladder Barrel) — so you get variety across the full range of equipment.

Do you offer mat Pilates?

In the studio, all classes are equipment-based. If you’d prefer matwork, it’s available in our online classes.

What is contemporary Pilates, and how is it different from classical?

Classical Pilates follows Joseph Pilates’ original exercises and order exactly. Contemporary Pilates keeps those foundations but incorporates modern movement science and physiotherapy, so exercises can be adapted to each person — ideal for mixed-level groups and anyone working around an injury.

I'm a complete beginner — can I join?

Yes. Classes run across levels, from Beginners through to Advanced, and Maria adapts each exercise to suit every participant. If you’d like to ease in first — especially if the equipment is new to you — you can book an optional initial assessment, a relaxed one-to-one where Maria introduces you to the studio, helps you get comfortable with the Reformer and apparatus, assesses your level, and places you in the right class. It’s entirely up to you, and as a physiotherapist Maria will always make sure you’re working safely and at a level that’s right for you.

Can Pilates help with back pain or an injury?

Often, yes. As a chartered physiotherapist, Maria can adapt sessions to work safely around back pain, injuries and a range of conditions. If you’re recovering from something specific, a private session — or a few to start — is usually the best route.

Are classes really taught in English?

Yes — every class is taught in clear, fluent English.

Where are you located, and how do I get there?

In El Viso, central Madrid, within The Pilates Club (Calle Francisco Campos 12). It’s 3 minutes from Cruz del Rayo (Line 9) and 6 minutes from República Argentina (Line 6). See our contact page for the map.

How do I book, and how do I find out about class times?

The quickest way is to send a WhatsApp or email — Maria will reply with current class times and availability, and help you find the right class or session. You can also check the timetable for upcoming classes.
